KCA adopted an evidence based approach to these projects. The city studies initially reviewed documents pertaining to:
-regional position, city character
-economic, social, cultural role
-potentials for development
-landuse structure
-statutory plans and documents to understand
current and projected growth patterns

The reconnaissance survey of the cities focused on:
-road networks and streetscapes with documentation of elevation systems, landmarks, nodes, edges, landscape etc.
-primary assessment of conditions and strength of links and networks including traffic type, infrastructure, utility etc. through visual surveys and photographic documentation
