Transport Hub, Naya Raipur

The transport hub of Naya Raipur is located in the northern end of the city. The residential axis of the city terminates at the transport hub.

The transportation hub is envisioned as an integrated multi-modal facility, which will become a major entry and distribution point for locals, visitors and goods. As a result, the transport hub assumes the symbolic role of a gateway to the city.

The different functional components of the transport hub are structured around a central pedestrian link/space.

The broad location of different uses is primarily shaped by ease of access and ease of interchange within different modes.

Two typical residential neighborhoods

All the residential areas of Naya Raipur are on either side of the central spine that culminates in the capitol complex.

The urban design for residential area aims to create a pedestrian friendly environment. Each sector is only 800 meter in any direction. The residential neighborhoods, internally are walkable and cyclable.

A hierarchy of public and private spaces starting from front gardens to streets and small parks to larger neighborhood parks.

Building level guidelines to create a desired character of medium density, compact neighborhood serving a diverse population.

CAPITOL COMPLEX AND ITS PRECINCT

The capitol complex and its adjoining precincts constitute the monumental core of Naya Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh.

Structured most prominently by the bi-axial symmetry of a monumental axis that emanates from the capitol complex, the urban design embraces the City Beautiful principles of grand boulevards and monumental buildings to convey the centrality of the democratically elected government in power.

The monumental axis, structures a democratic landscape constituting cultural institutions in the southern side, and offices and the central business district in the northern side.

Conversion of Ilford House to Fabindia Showroom & Offices

“…what a fantastic job you have done of the place! Ilford House certainly looks impressive! It was a pleasure to work with you; moreover, it was very refreshing to find that you stuck to schedules-weather they be those of time or money. That attribute does seem to be a rarity these days!”

-Saurabh N. Mehta, owner Ilford House, Madras

-It has also been described in the book on Fabindia by Radhika Singh.

Samode Palace

Anokhi celebrated its 20th anniversary with a cultural festival, crafts showcase, fashion show of Anokhi’s garments and a BBC special episode of “Clothes Show” focusing only on Anokhi. The venue for these events was Samode Palace, a 18th century Rajput castle. It has also been described in the book on Fabindia by Radhika Singh.

Though it had already been converted into a hotel in 1987 and had been used as a location for the movie “The Far Pavilions”, Samode Palace needed extensive but thoughtful repairs, improvements including incorporation of services and facilities, interior fitouts, lighting, decorations and furniture to host these events. This was done in 1988 by architects Ravi Kaimal and Jyoti Rath. This renovation considerably upgraded the standards of the hotel and brought Samode Palace international fame.
